Dear Dr. Jordan:-

Your communication dated October twenty-first just at hand. I read in the newspaper of the high compliment which had been paid you in tendering you the Directorship of the Smithsonian Institute - and I also read with great thankfulness to God that you most emphatically expressed yourself as being ready and willing to serve the best interests of the Leland Stanford Jr. University as long as you could be of use there. Now let me say that

since my return feel very anxious about my dear brother. Today he is better - more cheerful and appears stronger. If all goes well I shall be at Palo Alto tomorrow, Saturday, and shall remain over Monday to hear Mrs Chapman and Catt speak. It has occurred to me that it would be very pleasing to Mrs. Catt to have some of the professors and their wives, if not all, sit on the platform with her. I have been asked to introduce her

that afternoon, but this I cannot do - my natural timidity would not permit it. But I may sit on the platform if you and Mrs. Jordan are to be there.

Dear Dr. Jordan: -

I send you these books on the subject of "Money" thinking that pehaps you could distribute them among the Professors. Mr. Valentine kindly sent me a dozen copies, several of which I placed in the library.
