San Francisco, Oct. 9, 1902

Mr. James Rennie

Vina, Cal.

Dear Sir

Yours of Oct. 8th received and I note what you say of having crushed up to the night of Oct. 7th a few tons over 3000 of grapes, and that you estimate that there is still 3500 tons more to be crushed. I am pleased to know that the crop is so large as it was estimated some time ago that we would only have about 6000 tons.

I note what you say regarding the 20,000 fortifying tanks using 65 bbls. of high proof spirits, and our stills will not produce this every 24 hours. You are aware that the fortifying tanks are very much larger than ever before but we will see what the season turns out and maybe next year we can afford to purchase another continuous still to be operated in connection with the making of sweet wines. I note what you say that the machinery, with a few minor exceptions, is now doing good work and you anticipate no more delays. I know this information will please Mrs. Stanford (who is now in New York) and I will send her a copy of your letter to me, and a copy of my reply.

Respectfully,

(Sg'd) [ink stamp] CHAS. G. LATHROP [/ink stamp]

instruments and sang Italian songs, the boys helped themselves to the instruments and sang their college songs. It was the most delightful evening that I have passed since I have been here.

The fact that God in his great goodness had preserved and cared for me and allowed me this great privilege of meeting these grand, good and noble boys under these circumstances made my heart tender with grateful thanks and love for the Mighty Power that has lead and sustained me.

We thought of you, we talked of you and we gave vent to our expressions of love, admiration and respect, one and all sounded paens of praise for the grand and noble work which you had undertaken and developed so faithfully.

Hoping and trusting that all is well with you, and with the blessed work under your care, I remain, as always in the past,

Your sincere friend and well wisher,

Jane L. Stanford
