New York, February 3, 1902.

Dr. David S. Jordan,

Stanford University, Cal.

Highly Prized Friend:-

Your letters of December 11th, 12th, 14th, 16th, January 11th, and 16th, were received late Saturday night. All this time they have been lying in the office of the Fifth Avenue Hotel, and I suppose that the notice which was given in the New York paper[insert: s] of the Alumni dinner was the first information the proprietors of the Fifth Avenue Hotel received of my being in New York, and the above dated letters together with a very kind note from Professor Abbott, dated, Dec. 23rd, and many other letter[insert: s] and telegrams were immediately delivered to me here, and I hasten to acknowledge them.

It is needless for me to say that I had a very enjoyable evening reading them.

With regard to what you have said in one of these letters with reference to Professor Pease, - I am pleased with your prompt and decided action in the matter it needed just such heroic treatment as in your good judgment you saw fit to use.

I was pleased to learn from your letter that you had taken the trip to San Diego and that Mrs. Jordan accompanied you. These little trips are very beneficial both physically, and mentally, and spiritually, and your trip to San Diego did you and Mrs.
