Hymn: "Nearer to Thee"

Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!
E'en tho' it be a cross
That raiseth me;
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I'd be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

There let the way appear
Steps unto heaven;
All that Thou send'st to me
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

Or if on joyful wing,
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upward I fly,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

Prayer:
Almighty God, with whom do live the spirits of
those who depart hence in the Lord, and with
whom the souls of the faithful, after they are de-
livered from the burden of the flesh, are in joy and
felicity; we give thee hearty thanks for the good
example of thy servant Jane Lathrop Stanford,
who, having finished her course in faith, now rests
from her labors. And we beseech thee, that we,
with all those who are departed in the true faith of
thy holy name, may have our perfect consummation
and bliss, both in body and soul, in thy eternal and
everlasting glory: through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Anthem: "Crossing the Bar" UNIVERSITY CHOIR

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar
When I put out to sea.

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell
When I embark.

For, though from out our bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
