On this 24th day of May in the year one thousand nine hundred, before me, S. W. Charles, Notary Public in and for the County of Santa Clara, personally appeared Jane L. Stanford and W. A. Sutherland, as President of the Chi Psi Lodge Association of the Leland Stanford Jr. University and J. P. Bernard as Secretary of the said Chi Psi Association known to me to be the persons described in, whose names are subscribed to, and who executed the within instrument, and they acknowledged to me that they executed the same.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, at my office in the Town of Palo Alto County of Santa Clara the day and year in this Certificate first above written.

And it is hereby declared to be the duty of the Board of Trustee[s] Stanford Junior University after the decease of said Lessor to cause Agreement to be renewed for successive terms of ten years, upon the t[?] manner herein set forth for said third term, whenever thereunto duly r[?] person or persons lawfully entitled to occupy the said demised pre[?] hereof, or if such renewal be refused, to purchase and pay for the improv demised premises in the manner herein provided.

Said party of the second part hereby covenants, promises and ag[rees] [to] not sell, assign or transfer this Lease or any part or portion of the term or sell or dispose of the improvements that may be erected on said p[remises] first having obtained the consent in writing of said Lessor or her succes[sors]

And said party of the second part further covenents, promises and will not borrow money for the erection of improvements on said demised any building and loan society or corporation, or similar institution.

It is hereby, expressly covenanted, agreed and understood that no [spirits ?] or intoxicating liquors of whatever kind shall ever at any time be sold [ ?] premises, and a violation of this covenant shall work a forfeiture.

The said party of the second part further covenants and agrees all assessments and taxes which may be levied or assessed upon any a[?] ments on said property during the term of this Lease, the party of the f[irst] the taxes assessed upon the land. In case of destruction of the impro[vements] or action of the elements the same shall be restored by the party of the [ ?] within one year thereafter or this Lease shall be forfeited, if said party [ ?] shall so elect, and all rights of the Lessee, his heirs, administrators, exec[utors] and assigns, shall cease and determine forthwith, and said party of the f[irst] successors shall be entitled to the possession and enjoyment of said pre[mises].

And said party of the second part does hereby covenant, promis[es at] all times during the continuance of this Lease, or of any extension [?] keep and maintain said demised premises and all buildings and impro[vements] thereon in good order and condition, and neat and clean in appearance, [ ?] rubbish piles or debris to accumulate upon the premises, or any nuisan[ce] [ ?] tained thereon.

It is further understood and agreed that for a violation by the par[ ?] part of any of the covenants or conditions of this Lease, the said party may re-enter upon said premises and take possession of the same and t terminate and become void, and all the buildings and improvements upo[n] shall become the property of the part of the first part without con[ ?] therefor; and the party of the first part, for herself and her successors covenants and agrees to and with the party of the second part, his [ ?] administrators and assigns, that the said party of the second part, his administrators and assigns, paying the said rent and observing and ful[ ?] conditions and covenants to be by him paid, observed and fulfilled, peaceably hold, possess and enjoy said premises during the continuance [of] any extension thereof without let, molestation or hindrance.

This Agreement and Lease shall be, and is hereby declared to be the heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, successor and successors hereto of the first and second parts respectively.

To Whom It May Concern: Notice is hereby given by Mrs Jane L. Stanford the owner of the property hereinafter described. That the construction of a stone pipe sewer in the Leland Stanford Jr University grounds the contract for doing which was heretofore let to the Standard Construction Co of San Francisco and which contract was filed for record in the Recorder's office of the Countyof Santa Clara, on the 17th day of April, 1901, and which sewer is situated on said property, was actually completed on the 11th day of July 1901, and accepted by me on said day. That my title to said property is that of Surviving Founder of the Leland Stanford Junior University. That the property hereinbefore referred to, and on which said is situated, is more particularly described as follows:

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Notice is hereby given by Jane L. Stanford, the owner of the property hereinafter described, by J. G. McMillan the Engineer and Superintendent, for the construction of the Concrete Reservoir for the Water Works at the Leland Stanford Junior University, Palo Alto, Cal., the contract for the doing of which was let to Chas. A. Warren on January 16th, 1901, and which contract was filed for record in the office of the County Recorder of Santa Clara County, Cal., on the 17th, day of January 1901, and which said Concrete Reservoir was actually completed on the 10th, day of August 1901, and accepted by the undersigned on that day, and that payment in the sum of 75% of the total amount of said contract has been made. That the remaining 25% of the same will be paid at the expiration of 35 days from the 10th, day of August 1910. That the property hereinbefore referred to, and on which said reservoir is situated, is in the grounds of the University above named in the County of Santa Clara, Cal. In Witness whereof the said Jane L. Stanford has caused these presents to be executed by J. G. McMillan the Engineer and Superintendent in charge of said work, on this 20th day of August, 1901.
