Lathrop, Esq., Dear Sir:- The enclosed Resolutions, drafted by a Committee regularly named for that purpose,were reported to the Mayor and Common Council of this City and duly passed by a unamin- ous vote on March 13th, . Under instructions I am sending them to you, and at the same time foreward an engrossed copy to the Board of Trustees of the University.

Dear Mr. Lathrop -

Wishing to extend to you in your bereavement the slight consolation of our sympathy, the Stanford Club of San Jose have adopted the following resolutions. I assure you that they but fully express the sorrow and sympathy of the members.

May the knowledge that a kinder and nobler woman than Mrs. Stanford never lived, afford some comfort to you in this hour of grief.
