STUDIOS OF J AND R LAMB
23,25 AND 27 SIXTH AVE.
NEW YORK
March 15, 1905.
Pres. D. [L.sic- S] Jordan,
The Leland Stanford Jr. University,
Palo Alto, Cal.
Dear Sir:-
We have seen with profound regret the notices of the
death of our old client, the founder of the Leland Stanford Jr.
University, and we write you at this time to ask if we can be of
any service to you in arranging for the memorial services which
we presume will be held in your Chapel at an early period. Our
Mr. Lamb will be very glad to make special suggestions for the
temporary decorations of the Chapel and send forward his sketch
suggestions to you to be carried out by your local labor. If he
knew more specifically what it was desired to do as to arrangements
for seating guests, dignitaries, etc, his foreign training would
enable him to make more definite suggestions for decorative
treatment similar to the system so admirably done in France upon the
funeral of an important person. The proper treatments of drapery,
the artistic arrangement of flowers, the correct location of
symbolism, all pend to make a combination which, when seen at the
time of such service, can be most impressive and dignified. If the
idea meets with your approval, and you send me information forward,
we shall be pleased to have him take the matter up promptly without
charge in the interest of our feeling to the memory of Mrs. Stanford,
