Mr. O.L. Elliott,

Stanford University, Calif.

Dear Sir:-

The Stanford people of Stockton are desirous of knowing whether the University authorities are making any preparations or whether they intend to, toward receiving any delegation or representatives at the funeral of Mrs. Stanford. If so, we would like very much to be represented, but if we take our chances with all the others in the "Quadrangle" we feel that it would not be worth while in such a crowd.

Will you kindly inform us in regard to this matter?

Very truly yours,

Jos. M. [?]

Dear Mrs. Lathrop.

The two descriptions enclosed refer to the white feather piece we brought from Hawaii.

The two "Kahelis" should be tied together like this-

[drawing]

I placed the purple gauze ribbon with which they were tied, into the box. We considered they would keep better to be untied and protected in a box.

These are sad days.

Yours sincerely

Bertha Berner

The two white feather "Kahelis" are mourning badges used formerly by the natives of Hawaii only in honor of the death of members of the Royal family, but since the change in their form of Government, also in honor of the death of other high dignitaries.

These "Kahelis" were presented by Mrs. Wm Mutch in behalf of the native women of Hawaii who considered Mrs Stanford royal
