THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting:

CERTIFICATE No. 227 }

Whereas, Marquis C Winchester of Placer County California has deposited in the GENERAL LAND OFFICE of the United States a CERTIFICATE OF THE REGISTER OF THE LAND OFFICE at Sacramento California whereby it appears that FULL PAYMENT has been made by the said Marquis C Winchester according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24th of April, 1820, entitled "An Act making further provision for the sale of the Public Lands," for the South half of the North East quarter of Section Four in Township Thirteen North of Range Six East in the District of Lands subject to sale at Sacramento California [containing?] Eighty acres according to the OFFICIAL PLAT of the Survey of the said lands, returned to the GENERAL LAND OFFICE by the Surveyor General, which said Tract has been purchased by the said Marquis C Winchester

Now, know ye, That the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in consideration of the premises, and in conformity with the several Acts of Congress in such case made and provided, HAVE GIVEN AND GRANTED, and by these presents DO GIVE AND GRANT, unto the said Marquis C Winchester and to his heirs, the said Tract above described; To Have and to Hold the same, together with all the rights, privileges, immunities, and appurtenances, of whatsoever nature, thereunto belonging, unto the said Marquis C Winchester and to his heirs and assigns forever.

In Testimony whereof, I, Ulysses S Grant PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, have caused these letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the GENERAL LAND OFFICE to hereunto affixed.

Given under my hand, at the CITY OF WASHINGTON, the Twentieth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy, and of the INDEPENDENCE OF THE UNITED STATES the ninety fifth

On this [/preprinted] Twenty ninth (29th) day of May A. D. 1871, [preprinted] personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for said county, LELAND STANFORD, PRESIDENT, and E. H. MILLER, Jr., SECRETARY, of the within named Central Pacific Railroad Company, known to me to be the persons described in and who executed the foregoing instrument, as such officers of said Company, who acknowledged to me that they executed the same freely and voluntarily, as the free act and deed of said Company, and for the uses and purposes therein mentioned.

[preprinted] Know all Men by these Presents, That the Central Pacific Railroad Company, (successor to "The Central Pacific Railroad Company of California," and "The Western Pacific Railroad Company" Consolidated, in consideration of the sum of [/preprinted] Two hundred ($200) U. S. Currency dollars, to it paid by Frederick Bader of Nevada [preprinted] County, California, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hereby gives, grants, bargains, sells and conveys to the said [/preprinted] Frederick Bader his heirs and assigns, the following described tract of land, situate in Nevada County of California, to wit: the South West quarter (SW1/4) of Section No. Fifteen (15), in Township Fifteen (15) north, of Range Nine (9) east, Mount Diablo base and meridian, containing One Hundred Sixty (160) [preprinted] acres, according to the United States surveys, together with all the privileges and appurtenances thereunto appertaining and belonging. [crossed out] Excepting and reserving, however, for railroad purposes, a strip of land four hundred feet wide, lying equally on each side of the track of the railroad of said Company, or any branch railroad now or hereafter constructed on said lands, and the right to use all water needed for the operating and repairing of said railroads: and subject also to the reservation and condition that the said purchaser ..... heirs and assigns, shall erect and maintain good and sufficient fences on both sides of said strip or strips of land [/crossed out] ; and also reserving all claim of the United States to the same as mineral land.

To Have and to Hold the aforesaid premises to the said [/preprinted] Frederick Bader [preprinted] his heirs and assigns, to his and their use and behoof forever.

In Testimony Whereof, the said Central Pacific Railroad Company, has caused these presents to be signed by its President and Secretary, and sealed with its corporate seal this [/preprinted] Twenty Ninth (29th) day of May A.D. 1871
