Hon. Leland Stanford, Palo Alto, California, Dear Sir.
I take the liberty of enclosing you a brief extract from our University [Cat.?] giving a synopsis of my work in the "School of Design" [?] and would respectfully request that you hand it to the Trustees or file it away with other communications I have fowarded you. I have [respectfully?] addressed you personally at times [that?] I had reason to think that you [more mention?] in Europe or Washington and, I presume at home - as I did not know whom else to address - There may have fallen into the hands of secretaries, clerks, or someone else and been mislaid. Will you - or someone your direction - kindly honor me with a line in reply? Your [?] Henry T. [Andley?]

Kentucky Military Institute Dec 14, 1885 Hon Leland Stanford, Washington, D.C. Dear Sir:I [venture?] a suggestion in connection with your University in California. The [crying?] need of the day in matters of education is the secondary school, the academy, the good preparatory school. If a [portion?] of your generous donations were devoted to secondary schools in different portions of the state with courses of study leading up to those of the University and the whole under a [competent?] Superintendent the success of your enterprise would be almost instantaneous and I think you would [live?] to see it. [Respect?] [B.M.?] Arnold

Sen. Stanford, Dear Sir, I see by the papers that you are going to push your Anniversary to competition as soon as possible and that you are going to give it your personal supervision. As [our?] school is doing in a small way just what you propose to do on a larger scale, I take the liberty of [writing?] you to visit us. Our Laboratories are running from 10:30 to 2:15 o clock and should be glad to see you any day.
Yours Resp. [Fr.?] E. Arnold [Lee?]
