Hon Leland Stanford
Dear Sir,
I have drawn up with some care a plan for a College of Business and Political Science and it would greatly please me if it might have life given to it in some part of our country. The idea belonged to my father who died June 24, 1872. I have simply taken his thought and endeavored to adapt it to the need of the present hour.
My Father was a prominent merchant and ship owner in early life, a Marine [Underwriter?] and afterwards President of the New York Exchange, a corporation that owned and sold to the Government the present Custom House Sherman [Day?] of California who I think was connected with the California University was at one time a partner with my Father.
The scheme has very little resemblance to the so called Business Colleges that are to be found throughout the land but proposes a course of study occupying four years and is arranged under [ten?] heads as follows
