Hon. Leland Stanford, Dear Sir, Through the kindness of Mr. Ariel Lathrop I have been permitted, on several occassions, to note the progress of the work on the University buildings [at?] Palo Alto. The interest I have felt, from the first, in the plans for establishing this University, has increased as I have realized, more and more, the great value and extent of the undertaking. I have looked forward with interest to the time of the completion of the buildings and their dedication, and to the commencement of the educational work of the University. Some of my
