Napa Cal. Nov 28th 1885 The following resolutions were adopted by Napa Parlor No 62 of the Native Sons of the Golden West last Monday evening Nov. 23rd. Whereas, Senator and Mrs. Leland Stanford have munificently dedicated to the use and benefit of the citizens of the State of California certain valuable property for the endowment of an institution to be known as "The Leland Stanford Junior University", and, Whereas, Said dedication will prove of vast importance and benefit to this State and will be handed down to California posterity as an inestimable treasure in the various paths of learning, and, Whereas, The Native Sons of the Golden West as Californians take pride in the every advancement of their native State; therefore be it Resolved by Napa Parlor No 62 of the Native Sons of the Golden West that we tender our thanks to Senator Leland Stanford and his wife for their generous gift, and that a copy of these resolutions be engrossed and forwarded to Senator and Mrs. Stanford. Hon. L. Stanford San Francisco Cal, Dear Sir I have been reading about your memorial university, the sad event of your life which gave the suggestion or prompted the act, the mission of the grand work, all of which interest me more deeply than I am able to express - I was in hopes to have had a personal interview with you before leaving Washington, unfortunately I was obliged to leave with a party of friends a few days before your arrival from

Europe. I wish to place my name before you as an applicant for some position, for there must be many to fill. I am a most efficient worker in many departments having been a teacher of influence and success for many years, both in the East and South for the past few years. I have been teaching in Washington, as the [doors?] of the [Waverly?] [were?] closed [and?] thought it best to take a little vacation in the far West - I am charmed with the climate - and would like to remain. I am thoroughly devoted to my profession, and [love?] the work of aiding [humanity?] every way possible. I am very desirous to connect myself with some [growing?] Institution where I can throw my whole soul into a life work. I am now passing the winter in the delightful home of my sister Mrs. [Tozer?], whose husband is Gen. [Tozer?] of the [Finn?] Whitter Fuller and Co. - Mr.Whitter is my cousin - I mention these facts should you wish to make inquiries at any time.
