Senator Leland Stanford Dear Sir

On the 14th [inst?], I received a pamphlet containing an outline of what the Leland Stanford Junior University is to be; description of Palo Alto, etc. I have written to you to learn, if possible, when the said University will be open for classes. I am, at present, a student of the University of Rochester, but my home is in California (Sacramento) and, if it is private, I would

like to graduate with the first class that goes out of the L.S.J. University. I think it to be no false pride to desire this glory or honor. I am studying for the ministry and I expect to spend the years of my life [under?] the shadow, as it were, of the university that I believe is destined to become the [peer?] of any University in the country. If possible, I would like to have a copy of the curriculum. Hoping you may find time to give this attention. I am yours Very Truly Henry B. Williams
