Dear sir

We have your letters of Mch 8 and 10th

The writer of this Tribune notice is Dr. Miton Yale of New York.

Mr Eonards has already begun printing the chromo plates for the 2nd edition and I fear any changes are now impracticable.

As to the other points in those letters the firm will write you. I am going away soon after Apl 1st to be absent for several weeks.

Dr. J.B.D Stillman

Dear Sir Mr Henery Cottes of the Philadelphia book house of Peter + Coates is a good deal of a [horse?] man and is [usual?] interested in "The Horse in Motion". He also uses [afogrolis?] own private entertainment a "magic lantern" procuring glass slides from various sources. He is anxious to certain glasses from your book and we told him that we would refer the matter to you. He wishes plates 12 13 15 23 27 29 30 24 36 40 49 + 50. Kindly let us know what we shall write to him.

select one of the unused subjects illustrating the same general subject have a drawing made and substitute it for one of the duplicate plates.

In regard to the colored plate we out to have the reference marks at once as the Heliotype Printing Co. are at work on these plates and one printing will be saved if they can be put in immediately. We send an impression on which you can mark what you want to added. Please also let us know if we shall make the same additions to the plates now in the bindery of the first edition which are not yet bound up

As the English copywright was taken out in your name we think it would be better for you to sign the blank form and it can be assigned to Gov. Stanford. The American copyright notice does not of course appear on the copies which will go to England. As Gov Stanford has left the East we return the blank. [Left hand page} in silhouette as an infringement of his copy right. I have this to say that I can swear that they were all taken at the order of Gov Stanford who paid all the expenses, furniture all the apparatus and material and Muybridge furnished me with all the copies from which the plates were executed knowing that they were to be used for the purpose to which they will to be applied. The also furnished him with the magic lanterns and apparatus which he is now using to amuse the audiences in England and the money he used to travel and exhibit the movements of animals, and he imposed upon the Governor the idea that he processes the most delicate chemicals ever used to procure the results when in fact

[Right hand page} he was far behind the times and processes were in use for years far more delicate and which he did not know of until he went to Europe and he wrote to me where I was in Boston to delay the work until he could take a new set of photographs by the day process of which he had just learned. Muybridge wrote for me a long account of the history of the enterprise in which he gave all the credit of the suggestions to the use of electricity in the process of taking the pictures. In my hearing he advised the Governor to make the illustrations very elaborate that the book should be a new [?] to his fame like Audibus work on Ornithology, and
