célèbre, et non content de cela, vous venez encore de lui accorder aujourd'hui? une somme de [7?] millions pour assurer à cette Université le concours des plus brillants professeurs du monde. La nouvelle de cette immense générosité vous a valu partout des applaudissements unanimes, et je me permets de venir personnellement rendre hommage à cet acte de bienfaisance patriotique. Cette action généreuse dont le souvenir sera impérissable, prouve en ce moment au monde entier combien est grand l'intérêt que vous apportez à l'instruction de vos concitoyens, et les peuples Californiens doivent s'estimer heureux qu'un homme d'un si réel mérité veille si paternellement et si largement sur leurs intérêts et leur avenir. Hélas! que n'avons-nous en France plusieurs Stanford pour augmenter tant soit peu notre salaire a nous pauvres instituteurs! Dear Sirs
The undersigned earnestly recommend the appointments of Miss Annie P. Forman as an employe in the Mint. The lady is a daughter of Colonel Ferris Forman formerly Secretary of the State of California and more recently Colonel of one of the California Regiments during the late war. Colonel Forman in the Mexican war, Commanded the Third Illinois Regiment, and came to this Territory in 1849. The appointment of Miss Forman would gratify a large number of the Pioneers of the State and the signers of the Memorial. The lady is active, industrious, intelligent and accomplished.
