Sherman acknowledges receipt of the compliments of Mr & Mrs Stanfords invitation to dinner Thursday May 22, 1890 - and regrets that his engagements require him to be in New York on the Monday preceding the 22nd and that in consequence he will be unable to remain in Washington for the 22nd. He therefore begs to be excused.
