I have seen lots
of things since I wrote to
you last. We went to Nice
after leaving Paris and
had a very enjoyable
time as the American
Fleet
was at Villefranche
and they gave dances

When we arrived at Constantinople we all
thought we were in
the strangest country
we had every been
in before. No two turks
seem to be dressed alike
because their clothes are
of so many different
colors. We became
acquainted with Pangiris
Bey
, one of the Sultan's
ade-de-campo and he took
us to the Treasury where
we saw diamonds
literally by the bushel
and one emerald as
large as your hand,
bowls full of emeralds,
