Dear Mother and Daddy,

Well I'm sorry to say I didn't have a very successful week. I'm afraid I'm going to drop Spanish for this quarter. Ever since I entered the class I done about as bad as anyone could do and I got an A- last quarter. The thing is that you have a daily test on your work in the form of a dictation. He reads in Spanish and I write in Spanish and I simply cannot do it. Without taking Spanish I will still be taking the normal number of units; so I can easily do it. If I keep on taking it I shall have to study awfully hard for it and not do very well and at the same time I won't be able to study very hard on the other things; so I'll probably get no

good grades at all - when if I didn't take it, I might not do too well. I'm going to keep on with it until Friday and try to do better, but if I don't, I will have to drop it and take it in the Spring with a professor who approaches the subject in a little different way. I'll still be having fifteen units with German, Political Science, and Psychology, and that is what you are usually supposed to take. That is what I had last Spring and I found it to be just about right.

Last Friday night we had a big basketball game with Cal. of course we went. Sally, Jane, a girl named Mary Stafford and I, all went together. Ruth and Ann Carter didn't have any tickets, but they went with us and tried to get in but we weren't able to do much about them so we left them and

went on in and finally they got in some way. The game was lots of fun, but not so good, at least for Stanford. In other words we lost. The first half we were much better and was rather exciting because we were catching up so fast. But Cal. still won by quite a bit. After that we went to an open house and it was just so crowded that you could hardly breathe. Even though I was crushed, I did have a very nice time. On Saturday I studied all day and then went out to dinner with Bob, Kay and Bill, and another couple. We just had an hysterical time, all through dinner the lights kept going out. After dinner we went to three med. school parties. One of them was at the Cal. Med. School and another was at the A.[R.?]C.

house. The last one was down here. Yesterday I didn't do anything but study Spanish, for all the good it did me, and in the afternoon I went for a ride with Bob and Kay and Bill, and then out to dinner. As you can see, I had a very nice weekend. Thank you for sending my stockings. It's getting cold and I like to wear them to class sometimes. Please don't rush to get my pink dress done, but I would like to have it as soon as it is done. When you send it to me please send me some thread to sew the rest of the [beads?] on with. I would also like to have the camera to take with me the next time I go skiing and I would like you to send me the rest of my Christmas money to get the rest of my snow clothes. It's in my top dresser drawer, in the lower right hand corner under some handkerchiefs in its Christmas envelope.

Love to all, Mary
