January 22, 1946

Dear Mother and Daddy, Prospects for the quarter don’t look too bright. I fear I’m going to become a wall flower because I’ve been out of circulation so long and its hard to get back in, although now should be an easier time than any. It seems Bob has already done quite well for himself - he’s taking someone to the ballet. I’m glad he’s taking someone out, but why in the world does he have to take her somewhere so divine as the ballet, um. I don’t think he is planning to see me until the sixteenth of February. If some one does start asking me out, I’ll have to try not to expect so much; no one will ever take

me to the places he took me, but I’m glad that he didn’t pay more for our dates than he would have for any date. My work hasn’t been going too well either. I only got a C on my psychology test which was quite disappointing because I had studied my notes very hard and had read all the reading twice. I’ve been trying to study very hard this week, but it’s a little hard to keep my mind on it at times; however, I’ve done quite well with getting my political science and German done. Do you remember Jim Ressler? Well he is back now. In fact I just saw him tonight. He called on me Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon and evening, this afternoon and I finally saw him tonight. I had a very nice talk with him, and he took me to the billar for a cup of coffee. He teaches here now, I nearly jumped out of my skin when he told me he has some sort of unexplained cause that he gives; he is just using it until he an enter law school in the fall. He

insisted that I play something got him and I did. Then he played for me and I nearly died of embarassment. he played do well and he even played two pieces that he had composed himself they seemed quite technical and difficult. I was very amazed at him. I recieved the box and was very happy to get the things; thank you very much. The slip fits fine and I like it very much, so I would like to keep it. Love to all, Mary. P.
