Dear Mother and Daddy,

Nothing too really exciting has happened as yet this week. I had two tests on Wednesday and I spent all my time studying for them. They were in German and Political Science. I was able to study much better than I have been able to in a long time, and I really feel as though I did much better on them. In fact I got my German test back today and I got a B on it. There were only three A's and three B's in the class.

We are not having to go to school tomorrow because of Washington's birthday. I certainly wish that you had been able to come up. The weather, however, has been

perfectly terrible lately. Before you mentioned that you might come up, I had thought of coming home, but when it sounded as though you might be here I naturally decided not to. Anyway I don't know how much Willie and Sally would have appreciated my driving down with them. It seems so funny to have her engaged. Of course all the excitement has been centered around that she is the first one in our graduation class from Marlborough to have done such a thing and naturally there is a big commotion about it. She has received piles of telegrams, which are now all tacked on our door. She has a very beautiful ring. The diamond is quite large and has a gold setting. The other night [Marie?] came over to see

us, and between her and Sally, I felt so out of it that I had to leave the room. But never mind, I prefer to feel out of it for about four more years.

Mary Ellen and her roommate June came over to have dinner with us last night. For once we really had a good dinner; I was so pleased. We had a very nice little chat. Mary Ellen has been elected secretary of Lagunita. That is quite an honor. But I also found out something else very pleasing. I went plus quite a bit more than she did last quarter; I was so surprised to find out. I certainly never thought I'd live to see the day when I would do anything like that. But somehow I feel that this quarter it is going to be an entirely different situation.

Last Monday night, Bob called and asked me to go to the symphony next Saturday. Naturally I said yes. He thinks its the night that Marion Anderson is going to sing. Aren't I lucky to be able to hear something like that. I only saw John Fulton last Tuesday night; he flew to New York on the weekend. That certainly seems too bad! I think he is going for some track meet, although I'm not sure. Last night I was very surprised when a boy named Kent Fuller called and asked me to the Sophomore Cotillion. Since Bob is taking me out this weekend I knew he wouldn't ask me for the next; so I said I'd like to go. He also asked me to go out any night this weekend that I wasn't busy, but I didn't

think I had better rush this mater too quickly, so I said I was going to be busy. I was certainly surprised at his interest; he was the boy that did my psychology experiment with last week. He is from Mass. or Conneticut, or someplace like that and is the son of a very close friend of one of Ruth's mother's best friends, if that means anything. I also got a letter from Peter Boyes. Evidently he is home now, and he said that he was planning to come down tomorrow; so maybe I will be seeing him.

I think I had better go practice my music lesson now. yesterday afternoon I played from one until four-thirty, but not a note of my lesson. But I did have a lovely time fooling around.

I still wish that you had
