Dear Mother and Daddy,

I have been able to work it so that I will be home this week-end. I am coming home on Friday night so that I will arrive on Saturday morning, and I'm going back on Sunday night so that I will have two whole days at home!

Things are coming along very well here. My work is progressing quite well here. You needn't have to worry about my studying enough. I have to study a minimum of twenty-one hours a week or else be locked in one night on the week-end which isn't very pleasant. Last Friday I

had to write an English paper. I havn't done one in so long that I don't know whether I did it right or not. I had a hard time deciding what to write on but finally decided on Byron's notions of freedom in the first two cantos of Childe Harold. It had to be something about Childe Harold. You were supposed to do original thinking for it and not use references. Somehow I feel my thinking wasn't too profound. We are now reading Past and Present by Carlyle which isn't too interesting, but I'm sure it will be after I find out in class what it is all about.

The dinner was very regal and I was absolutely filled after the first course; of course that didn't stop me, but by the time I finished I could hardly stand up. Every one felt the same way though, so I wasn't too piggish. I wore my pink dress and people are still constantly amazed that you made it. There were six couples there, all of whom I knew; so it was loads of fun. Afterwards we all went to a dance.

I told John [Sutton] that

I couldn't let him come over any more if he was going to expect to come over all the time, because I wasn't that interested; so he said he wouldn't come over any more. But a couple of days he later he did and asked me if I would go out with him sometime when I wasn't busy, and so I couldn't very well say no to that. So then he asked if he could take me to church if he brought me right back, and so I said yes, so I went to church with him and there was really an excellent sermon. It was the best I've heard here. John is really awfully nice and hasn't been the lease obnoxious like a few people I could mention, Joe Smith in particular. He isn't any older than Joe either, so

you musn't think too hard of him.

Yesterday afternoon we had what they call Olympic day. All the classes compete in racing and pie-eating contests, etc. I didn't enter anything, but had a grand time watching. Somehow I don't feel as though the sophomores did too well.

All the things that you sent me have arrived and thank you very much. I appreciate it very much. I would also appreciate it if someone would meet me at the Glendale station on Saturday morning. I'm coming on the [Coaster] and I think it arrives there about a quarter of eight. You can find out
