Dear Mother and Daddy,

Another rather full week has passed. Between studying, practicing, and doing everything else, I seemed to have kept myself quite busy. I didn't go to Carmel this week-end as I thought I would because it was the week-end of the [AKK] south sea island dance and I think Bob would have been rather disappointed if I haddn't gone with him. Kay also stayed to go with Bill and we thought it worth while especially since we found out that the weather at Carmel was simply awful. The South Seas Dance was better than ever before. They had fishnets and palm's leaves all over the house.

Kay and I spent all afternoon trying to make up some kind of a costume. Every one there I think looked like beachcombers. Jim [Whittly] also came up for the week-end and he went out to dinner with us first. He was also at the dance. He is out of the navy now but doesn't know whether he will finish with his medical studies or not.

Last Friday there was the Sophmore Carnival. All last week was Convelesant Home week. All the Stanford Students support a Convelesant Home here on campus for small children and one week out of the year they have a big drive to raise money for it. The Sophmore Carnival was on Friday, and everything

that was raised goes to the Convelesant Home. It was just one of these affairs where the Sophmores in each living group have a concession, something like Harvard Day. We had a nail pounding booth; you were given a nail and a hammer and if you pounded it into the board in three tries, you got a prize. The girls across the street had a concession where a girl has to hold a lighted candle in her mouth and then people come and try to put the candle out with a water pistol; if you did you got a prize. Then there were base ball throwing places and basket ball and golf ball places, and rat races and catching

swing doughnuts with your mouth, and several dozen other things like that. It was just loads of fun. Both Kay and I were supposed to stay in on Friday night because we haddn't done quite enough study hours one week, but we got permisson to go at ten if we studdied three hours first. But just as I was beginning to study, Frank [Waizy] called, he was one of the boys I used to know at [Shebb] and he was in town and wanted to come see me; so I arranged it so that I could stay in tonight. He came over and also brought a friend who was extremely good looking. We sat in the living room and talked until ten, and

then I went and got Kay, a fact which Bill didn't appreciate very much, and the four of us went to the Carnival. Everyone's eyes nearly popped out when they saw Kay and Frank's friend. I can't say quite so much for Frank, but nevertheless we had a lovely time and we did practically everything and we came home about eleven thirty.

Last Tuesday they also had a huge barbecue for the school at the Convelesant home. Everyone was supposed to go out in the afternoon and work either raking the fields, the Home is sort of like a little farm, or paint toys for the children. I painted a little tricycle blue and
