Dear Mother and Daddy,

Well, you just can't imagine how thrilled everyone was when we beat the University of San Francisco. The game certainly proved that we have a wonderful team. U.S.F. only made one decisive play, of course it was very spectacular, but it was only one. You have never seen such a happy group of people when we won that game. Practically the whole school is coming down to Los Angeles next weekend for the U.C.L.A. game. It will be the most decisive game of the season, and terribly exciting. I didn't think that I would really care about going down, but now that we have a chance of winning I am just dying to come. A very nice boy, George Grimes, said that he would drive Ruth, Illie Costigan, and me down on Friday and back on Sunday. When I talked to him about driving, he said it usually took him at least nine hours to drive down; so I could tell from that he must be a slow driver. He is a very quiet, serious boy, and has a new car; so that I know he would be very careful. I only have one class on Friday at eight, and since we wouldn't be leavinf until nine, I wouldn't miss anything. I told Ruth that she could stay with me. I know it wouldn't be much trouble because she has a date on Friday night and Saturday night, and so undoubtedly won't be there for dinner, and we have been invited to a brunch on Saturday morning before the game; so we wouldn't be at home for breakfast or lunch on Saturday. Also Charlotte told me last summer she would like to have me stay at the Kappa House on the Saturday night of the Stanford-U.C.L.A. game; so I wrote Charlotte telling her that I would like to accept her invitation for myself and two friends; she had also asked me to bring any friends if I wanted to. Illie will stay with Phyllis Talmager on Friday. I hope you don't think I have planned too much, but I really want very much to come. I know the only part you don't like is the driving down, but this boy is the most reliable one you could find. I will call you on Thursday night and tell you all the details which I don't know now. Please don't go to a lot of trouble just because Ruth will be here.

Love,

Dear Mother and Daddy,

I finally arrived back at school rather later than I expected on Sunday night. When we found out that we were going to have to drive part of the way at night, we decided it would be best to keep on the main roads, rather than take any of the short cuts; so it took us a little longer tahn we expected. However we arrived without any difficulty whatsoever, except that you have never seen four such tired people as Judy, Eve, Laura Supple and I were. Eve was a wonderful driver.

Yesterday I didn't do anything but study. I had a test in Colonial History this morning; so I spent the whole time studying for it. It really wasn't too bad, and it seems to me now that I knew most of the information, but you can never tell until you get your test back. Anyway I feel as though I studied adequately enough. I got my economics test back with an eighty-two, at which I was quite pleased. The average was seventy-one, which was the dividing line between a B and C; so I must have gotten a very good B. I also got back a quiz in International Law on which I got eight out of ten; so that seems pretty good to me too. Now all I have to worry about is another economics test this Friday.

My date last Saturday night was just about thebest date I have had in a long time. He was very good looking except for the fact that his teeth were spaced rather far apart, but then you can't expect everything. The general feeling is that he will probably ask me out again; George said he had an awfully good time. But if I go out with him, I don't think that the otehr Delt will ask me out, because boys in the same fraternity don't like to take out the same girl. And I really want to go out with both of them. I can see what will happen now, is that things will get so confused that I won't go out with either of them. But then I suppose there are always some more.

Thank you very much for letting me have Ruth for the night; I know she enjoyed it.

Love to all, Mary
