Dear Mother and Daddy, On the whole, I had a very nice week-end. My date with Jack Carpenter turned out very well indeed. All we did was go to the movies, but he is very easy to get along with, and so we had a nice time talking. He seemed to have a nice time too, and from the remarks that George Grimes dropped later, I take it that he did. He has a beautiful new Studebaker car. His father is the Studebaker dealer for Los Angeles; so he and all his three brothers have them. Saturday night was also very nice. I went with this Lin Wolfe to a dinner and hay-ride that his fraternity was giving. The Hay ride was just hysterical, a little old man drove the wagon, who looked as if he had not had a bath or changed his clothes in years, and he kept chewing and spitting tobacco; we left, however, about ten o'clock and went to another party on campus. The boy was extremely nice and agreeable, and quite a conversationalist; so I had a very nice time with him, but he was rather old. He was one of the assistant football coaches. Bob called yesterday and asked to come down that evening. He took me for a ride in the afternoon and then we went out to dinner. We had a lovely time until then, but afterwards we had a very difficult conversation. I have no idea when I will see him again.

I had a very good music lesson on Saturday morning. Dr. Popper seemed quite pleased with the way I had practiced. He is just a wonderful teacher, the kind that makes you want to practice for him; and ever since I have started taking, I have practiced at least one hour a day, and often two.

I think that is a complete account of my weekend, except that I went to the Stanford-Santa Clara game on Saturday afternoon, and was very pleased that we won, the score was awfully close for a while, and even though we didn't play a very good game, it was exciting. I studied Sunday morning, and afternoon, and also went to church.

Love to all, Mary
