Dear Mother and Daddy,

There has been a sudden change in the weather - today it is just like a hot summer day. We all ate lunch out on the porch and watched everyone go to their one o'clock classes. There is only one thing wrong with its getting sunny so early - the Lake isn't at all full. In fact when I drove by the other day there was only a small mud puddle in the bottom. You have always been able to go swimming in it by the end of January before. Of course it does get slightly cold at times, but it would be much better to get cold than to have no water whatsoever in the Lake.

Saturday morning I got up early and spent the entire morning reading law cases. We are now studying about interstate commerce and it is slightly confusing because you can make practically anything you want into interstate commerce, and you can never tell what is and what isn't. Right after lunch I went and practiced for an hour - I was rather anxious to see what my new piece was like; naturally it turned out to be very nice but quite different from anything I've played. Then I came home and had a small tennis game with Jack; of course he beat be. He said he hadn't played in six years, well I hate to think what would have happened if he had been playing. At first I just couldn't do anything and the set score was six to one. The next set something happened and I beat him six to four, but then he won the last set six to three. I was a little embarassed at first, but after I won a set, I didn't feel so badly. We played for about two hours, and all I can say in my favor is that he was more tired than I when we finished. I then came home and rested and got ready to go out that night. I went with Jack, and first of all we went to a basketball game which was absolutely the best ever. We played Santa Clara and beat them by about eighteen points.

You don't know how good that was for us because Santa Clara has beated U C, U C L A, and Cal. and we has only won one game with U C L A. Everyone got horribly excited and could talk of nothing else for the rest of the evening. After the game we went to a place in Belmont where all the Delts were having a small party. Absolutely everyone was there, in fact everyone who was there that wasn't a Delt or wasn't with a Delt were just out of it. We went around and talked to everyone and danced, and just had an awfully nice time. I met the friend of Martha's and had a small talk with him; he seemed to be awfully nice.

Sunday was rather a leisurely day. I studied and talked most of the day. Illie had been to some tremendous society ball at a great big estate the night before, and it took quite a while to hear about that. Then I had a small talk with Judy Peake about all the odd combinations at the party the night before, and why so and so could possibly want to take out so and so. It wasn't very nice talk, but lots of fun. Then I read some more law cases and my little French book The Crime of Sylvertre Bonnard. Art took me out to dinner at a very nice place, and I had a steak about two inches thick. It was really quite something for him to do, as I don't think he is in the habit of taking girls out to dinner much. We didn't stay out very long though because he had to study for a test. Then I studied some more.

Illie said that she had talked to her mother, and that her mother had received the nicest letter from you. She said to tell you how much she appreciated your thinking of doing it.

It has now come time for me to go to my tennis class now; besides believe it or not, I am up to date in my small series of the events of the last two weeks.

Love to all,

Mary
