August 21, 1944.

Dear Mother and Daddy,

Nothing really very exciting or out of the ordinary has happened. Last Saturday morning i had a Lab. geology test. I had to identify a box of rocks and give their characteristics and other information about them. I had studied very hard for the test and I think that it showed it for I identified all the rocks right but I got parts of their composition a little mixed; however, I think that I will get a pretty nice grade. I can't understand why I do so well in Phys. Sci and so poorly in Western Civ. I just had a test in that class and I had studied

equally hard for it, but I will be lucky if I get a C.

I got the present from Aunt [Lou?] and it was a super bottle of Milkmaid Cologne, like Margie gave to you. But I don't exactly know who I am to thank and where to send the thank you note. Would you please tell me.

The big formal was last Saturday night. It was a very nice dance, but I could have had a better time than I did. In a lot of ways, the dance reminded me of the Marlborough proms. The gray formallooked just wonderful, it sort of shined. The dinner bell has rung, so I'll have to leave now, but I will see you soon.
