Dear Mother and Daddy,

I went to Mrs. Belenky's this morning and heard some of her pupils play. I was very impressed and inspired to practice more. Most of her pupils were only about 12-13-14 and they played much better than I do. I'm afraid I shall be a little embarrassed when I have to play for them because, I shall certainly have some [critters]. I came home inspired to practice my lesson all afternoon, but when I got to the place where I was to practice they were having a meeting and I couldn't practice until 3:30. When I started to practice, some boys came in and asked if they could listen to me, and of course I didn't say anything, but I'd wished theyed stayed out because I couldn't practice my scales with them listening to me. People kept coming in and sitting down and I got very preturbed. Everyone was very dressed up, why I don't

know but after I finished practicing my sonata I asked them if they had come to a meeting there. They said no, but I guess they thought that I wanted them to leave, so all the boys did, and the girls left a little later. Unfortunately, by that time there wasn't enough time before dinner to do any constructive practice.

Last night I went to an all campus Halloween party and met George there. I wore some clam-diggers of the girl across the hall. It was loads of fun. There was a program, and a man told a gruesome ghost story with all the lights off. Then [well] plaed games. George pinned a nose on the witch blindfolded and I won a relay race in which you push a pretzel across the floor with your nose. Of course it really wasn't any great accomplishment for me to read such a race because my nose was made for something like that. Then we played a spanking game

which is just like drop the handkerchief only instead of dropping a handkerchief behind someone, you spank the person with a pillow. After that we went and danced. I had rather a lively evening.

I have to start to get ready to go out with Bob to a barn dance. I'm afraid I doomed to go out with him until he leaves. He really is a very wonderful boy and all the boys think an awful lot of him, but he really isn't very interesting any more. I would sort of like to go out with someone new - who I don't know because no one in the med. school would take me out because of Bob, and very few freshman would because of George - oh! well, it doesn't make any difference - I repeat, I have decided to concentrate on being a grind.

Love to all, Mary.

P.S. What about a letter from Marjorie.
