Tues.

Dear Mother,

Thanks for your call last night. I'd been meaning to write you, but every night that I come home to settle down & write a letter or something, someone comes over to talk or be fed. I can always tell when someone is coming over, if I feel like coming home from work & taking a nap.

Pardon the pencil, but that pen was impossible. I'm up at the shop, tonite, watching future speed records being invented. Your last letter was very much appreciated, as also were the enclosures, all of them.

As Paula says, our place is "really shaping" I put most of the landlady's little pink - nicks in a box in the shed. I would have removed more, but it would have left a lot of bare nails on the wall. On several occasions, Paula has severely exhausted herself doing the dusting & wiping up the kitchen. She does such loads of dishes up at Rudy's, that the dab that constitutes a sinkful in our kitchen is nothing. She loves to mop, so she mops the linoleum floor in my room & I vacum the rug in hers.

Jim just put his motorcycle together & is breaking it in, so on Sundays & nonworking hours, we go riding to put miles on it.

The seasons are just changing & fall is a beautiful time to ride, especially up around Skyline. If you could get rid of that mental block of yours, I'd take you for a nice ride.

Kodak is really great. I couldn't have picked a better thing to do on emerging from the ratrace. No pressure & it feels good. My curiousity about everything is redoubled & I feel like finding things out instead of having to learn things.

A cat has adopted the shop. It's a boy, little more than a kitten. It just walked out from behind the air compressor one day. It was skinney then, but not anymore. It doesn't flinch at the loudest motor & every time anyone sits down it jumps up on their lap to be petted, & then up on the shoulders to lie down & go to sleep. It's fun to watch all the big cat-hating he-men petting it & calling it a "nice Kitty-cat." It's name is hot-shoe.

Paula & I have an extra bed, the couch, & my sleeping bag, so please feel free to drop in & stay a couple of weeks whenever you feel like it, especially when you don't feel like anything else. We don't have any extra blankets, so if you don't like my sleeping bag, bring as many

as you think you'll need. Paula's mother got mad at her when she left, so she is lucky to have any blankets at all, let alone her two sheets & one towel. I sleep with the same blanket all year round.

The new TV set works great & they have nothing but stations up here. The landlady was thoughtful enough to provide us with an aerial on the roof, so I didn't have to pay for that.

My room is finally taking shape. I've got most of the pure junk relegated to boxes, which I will go through eventually. I just leave them where I'll fall over them & sooner or later I'll get to them.

Until yesterday, Paula has been driving for Castelleja & is currently fixing Kevin up with some cute little senior who admired him from afar last year & is just thrilled to pieces at the prospect of going out with him.

Don't forget that you are welcome any time up here. You can get your own [horizons ?] [loused ?] from staying around there. Bring Cookie, if at all possible. Bring her sweater, too. We haven't found out how to turn on the heater yet.

In the future I will write you more & better. In the meantime, don't get dusty counting those dollar bills.

Love, Marcia
