Dear Mother & Daddy,

All the goodies arrived & Pooh is well-dressed & delighted. We have to keep the car-coat out of sight when it isn't time to wear it, because she's crazy about it & demands to have it put on. You sent it just at the right time, because, owing to a recent growth surge, she just out grew her heaviest jacket. Everything fits beautifully, including the T-shirts. Sizes seem to run large in that brand. The milk-truck went over very well. She is at the pull-toy age. She delivers milk all over the house, & one hasn't lived around here until one has unexpectedly skated on a milk bottle. Thank you very much for all the goodies for Pooh also for the check.

The house is ours at last. Everybody approved of everything & we

2 mailed the first payment today. Now the reconstruction begins. We caulked all the siding last weekend, & hope to do the roof this coming weekend. We're waiting on a housepainter friend to come thru with some additional materials at a proffessional discount. After that most immediate need is taken care of, we will start to mobilize our carpenter, floor-layer, paving contractor, & sliding glass door friends. I'm also negotiating for a 4x8 ft. aluminum sash, 3 panel window for the living-room. It's going to take a while, but anyway, we're started. Pooh pitches right in, too. This weekend, she spent as much time possible on the top of the ladder & managed to get well daubed with caulk. It looks like we're going to have a streak of Indian Summer, a much needed repreive on the outdoor work that should be done before the wet weather.

3 Jim swindled an overdrive for the Merc. & hopes to install it next week some night, while I'm putting in overtime getting my monstrous caseload current. Owing to turnover, I have suddenly inherited responsibilities & a kind of seniority that is a little uncomfortable at this time. If I can live through the next couple of weeks, I should be able to cope with anything except that darn dictaphone.

Congratulations to Kathy. She appears to be on an internship program. That dept. is supposed to be one of the best organized in the state.

Have been meaning to thank you for the additional Hakata dolls. Maybe we will be able to bring them up at Thanksgiving. Have found a large place for them in the decorating scheme, a whole living room wall. I'm

Your plans for Carmel sound like fun. Hope you succeed in finding a spot with good weather. It's a beautiful area if you can beat the uniform grey weather. What makes you think property values are going to go down, especially in Northern Calif.?

Pooh's latest check-up reveals her to be a solid 26 lbs. 5 oz, 31 3/4 in. tall. The doctor is delighted with our little tank. For a kid that lives largely on bacon, tomatoes, soda-crackers & milk, she does all right.

Oct. 3 Another hectic week gone buy & we received your other packages. Again, thank you for more goodies. The pictures are good. We're working on another roll. Thank you for the film, too. She's sleeping in one of those cover-alls now. Maybe she won't wake up at 4:30 or

5 5:00 AM. She's the only clock we couldn't set. We wake up to the the creak of her crib & a recitation of her whole vocabulary. Hi-Da-da-Ma-ma-dogie-choo-choo, coo-coo-cookie-nite-nite-truck, right now, wheeeeee!

She's getting very interested in books. Aside from childrens' books, we give her all the old Sears sales catalogs, also my old Avon Christmas catalogs. She sits & turns pages until we go in to investigate the quiet. Whenever it gets suspiciously quiet, she's usually sitting on the couch or by the magazine rack, reading. Everything else, she does loud. You should see what a little roughneck she is, running around in her jeans & her sweatshirt that says "wild bronco" across the front.

Today, we ordered her a musical rocker. We were thinking of one for Christmas, but she enjoys
