Dear Mother & Daddy,

Meant to have this waiting for you when you got home, but life is a little complicated & has been intermittenly for the last three weeks. The kids came down with some kind of one-day intestinal flu 1/2 hr. after we got home from Rodding. At one & two day intervals, we got it, too - as did most parents & kids in the neighborhood. Last Friday, Toot woke up with a rising fever, trembling, barely able to stand up & complaining of a headache. The doctor said "funny kind of flu that's going around" & gave her a shot of phenobarb to relieve the muscular discomfort. The fever raged all night & abated in the early morn without breaking. The day before yesterday one of the neighbors had to take Marian to the doctor at the onset of a kidney infection which still has her laid out flat. Last night Toot came in and woke me up with another high fever which broke with an outpour of sweat at around 6:30 AM - after very little sleep. She was grouchy this AM but otherwise fine until bedtime when we discovered she

2 has a fever again. Find out who sells the most baby asprin & we'll buy some of their stock.

In the meantime, I've started an extension course that runs 2 hrs. on Mon. 4-6. The county donates 1 hour of my paid time. Prior to this I had applied to take a special seminar at the PA Mental Research Foundation. They told me all sections were filled but they planned to start another on short notice - so they called Mon. morning to say it was to start Mon. nite 7-10. The latter course only runs six sessions but it really fills up Mon P.M.

Your itinerary really sounded exciting & the hotels the plushiest. We enjoyed your postcard, & the kids can say "Paris" & "Arc d'Triumph". Toot's inflection is her very own. When you revisit 'yurrop' for a longer stay, you'll really know how to plan your time. Looks like you got to Rome just before they slammed the door to St. Peter's for the council. I look forward to hearing about the [c?] of commerce you saw. Those are seldom written up where I can read them. Did you open an account in a Swiss bank?

That reminds me. Don't throw away those old Forbes magazines. We brought a few

3 old copies back with us after last Thanksgiving & only recently got around to reading them, but we both found them very informing & educational. For a trade-type journal, it's very readable stuff. So when you're through with them, ditch them our way.

The house. Jim started paint the living room but we ran out of paint. It's a special color & has to be ordered (Sears, of course) That raw texture paint really slurps it up. If everyone remains reasonably healthy this weekend, we hope to get the living-room painted & the floor sanded this weekend. The following weekend, we'll put down the cork-tile. In between minutes we got the cabinets for the bookcases with the glass doors built. In between, we've almost finished sanding them so they can be finished. That oak is handsome stuff.

Yesterday we got our goodies from the registrar of voters designating me a judge & Jim a clerk. Nothing for the house officially designating it a poll. Guess they'll mail us the list & the flag. Some housewarming that will be. We're trying not to think of it until we get rested up.

Pooh is currently enthralled with Peter & the Wolf. We have the Peter Ustinov version

4 from the P.A. Record library. Today she surprised one of the neighbors by identifying it and all the character-sounds. She further surprised her by identifying the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 5th as "Beethoven". That was a lucky guess because she hadn't heard it before, tho she is very fond of the "Apasionata" & "Pathetique" sonatas which she calls the "Beethoven storm music".

Better go to bed now. It's past time, & after last night I'm pooped. Toot sees the light & is still mumbling. She's gotten up twice already in the last hour to "go potty". Very unusual, since after a few successful experiences before she got sick last Fri., she's back to waking up happily in her plastic puddle. Anyway I have to be bright & fresh in the AM so I can go & be campaign fodder for "Trickey Dickey." If he does get elected, he will sadly learn that it will be physically impossible for him to fulfill some of his pie-in-the sky campaign promises. - He'll probably be too busy running for Pres. He'll never make that without Caroline's support. "The hand that rocks the cradle..." you know.

Love, Marcia
