Dear Mother & Daddy,

The sweater and lederhosen arrived in good shape. Thank you much. The sweater is really lovely & the color goes beautifully with all the latest things in Jim's wardrobe. The kids weren't quite sure about the lederhosen at first, tho they really loved the suspenders at first sight, [keeping?] [stay?] & all. Now we call them goat-milker pants & they love them. Toot is really good at slipping down the suspenders on the way to the pot. She can also say "Weisbaden." Thank you very much for all the goodies.

On Tues, we're having a little plebiscite in the living-room. We had the grubby green rug hanging over the fence all last week, drying out

2 after the storm. We had it rolled up in the back yard for a few weeks. Now it's down over the nice cork in the living-room to protect it from the dirty old waters & the french heels. We're not taking any chances with democracy in action in our nice really decorated pad. After Tues. the rug goes to the dumps.

Hope you're going to be there on Thanksgiving because we got plane tickets. We got them 3 days after they started looking & nearly didn't get them at all.

Bill & Judy are putting a room on the back of their house with the help of a friend who is a contractor. Yesterday Jim went down at the contractor's request to show them how to put in a big sliding glass door.

The kids have had messy colds all week. Pooh was first & is about over it. Toot's is pretty uncomfortable,

3 even with the help of cherry & orange -flavored asprin. It's the nose drops she hates.

They had a ball on Halloween. Pooh wore a mink-tail pinned to the seat of her blue tights & a fox mask with her yellow hooded sweatshirt. As a "blue fox" she wagged her tail for all the neighbors. Toot was a witch with a mask & pointed black hat with a navy blue coat. I tied a magenta scarf over her shoulders for cape. She'd boo! at people, then lift her mask & say "It's only Tootie."

Today we walked over to a school & got our Type II Sabin Oral Polio vaccine. Type III is scheduled for some time in Dec. if they decide it's safe. The kids really go for the sugar lump.

Today Jim painted out the last of the Flamingo pink on the

4 front door. Now the whole room is ice blue. We took the color that's in the hallway & mixed it 3 to 1 with white (3 white) & now it's really ice blue. We're going to paint the hallway over.

Jim completed the cabinets for the bookcases & I've been staining & finishing them for two weeks, trying to match the new oak with the old. It takes forever with 8 hrs. between coats. Every time I get things quieted down so I can work on them, someone comes over. It's not so bad when I'm putting on stain, since I can do that in the house, but I have to steel wool them in the garage. Once those are finished we can start on our all-purpose desk complex.

Well, got to get things organized for Monday. Happy duck season!

Love, Marcia
