Under the Trees
Roble Hall
February 28, 1892

Dear Mama:

We have demostrated our
ability to walk a little anyway.
Yesterday afternoon Mr. & Mr. Howard
chaperoned sixteen boys and girls
for a walk. We expected to return
about dinner time but did not get
back till eight-o'clock and then we
had walked perhaps to twelve miles or
more. We walked to Searsville where
the reservoir is and then ate the
lunch which we had brought with us
and before long set out on the return
trip. We thought it would be shorter
and more interesting to come home over
the hills instead of by way of the
road. So Mr. Howard and I started
back that way. Some half of the party
followed us and the others took the
road. We who came over the hills had
the grandest view of the bay and boats,
towns on its beaches, and the beauti-
ful hills and valleys; and hills in
between were lighted up by the sun,
which was hiddeen from us by still
higher montains. I am surprised that
I am not more tired, but do not feel
any evel effects at all and want to do
it again, and we perhaps shall.

I do wish you all could be
here and enjoy this climbing up a
hill and seeing such a big piece of
the world, then climbing a little
