clippings, Nana home after earthquake
Miss Mabel Bartlett arrived from
Stanford University on a belated
train at 3 o'clock Monday morning,
weary, but glad to be home again
where peace and quiet reign. She
tells of courteous treatment by the
railroad people, no fares being collected,
or even asked for, from the
passengers.
GAVE AWAY HER CLOTHES
Miss Mabel Bartlett arrived Sunday
night from Stanford University and
will remain at her home on Santa
Clara street for some time. Miss
Bartlett's experience was thrilling.
After the earthquake and the destruction
of the Stanford buildings
she found plenty of sufferers who
had lost all their belongings and she
generously opened her trunk and
gave away almost all her wearing
apparel. When she applied for her
ticket she did not have a cent of
money but the agent kindly trusted
her and she arrived home in safety
Sunday night.
