Stanford University, Cal., Sunday Apr. 15th 1894

My Dear Ivy.

I have waited to answer your last
long letter until I had something of interest to tell you
as I do so little now except work on my thesis, as there are
but five weeks from now until the end of work and but six
until commencement. Everyone is feeling the same as I and
all are working so little is going on except for the past two
days, which have been very lively. Friday was Junior Day and
yesterday was Berkeley Day. Thursday night I started by
going to hear Watterson lecture on Money and Morals
which I spoke of in my last letter to Mother. I enjoyed it
very much. Friday was a grand day so the outdoor exercises
could have proved a success had the Juniors made them so
but they didn't, anyway the part I saw. The first thing
was exercises at the Junior tree which I didn't go to, as
there were only to be a few speeches. As soon as that was
done they adjourned to the lake for races etc, which were
very poor as the arrangements were not made well. They had
some very good high diving, but all the rest was poor. The
boat race - about a half mile - was entered by but four. The
winner rowed in a heavy flat bottom tub, two others rowed
in light skifs but didn't know the first principles of boating.
