How are you all. Well I suppose. Hows Ma. It seems funny not to have here arround.

Palo Alto, Cal.

Oct. 13, 1895

Dear Ma etc.

Well I haven't anything to say but that I'm all right and getting along all right. We had a great time here yesterday. The Stanford suit was decided in favor of Mrs. Stanford. Every body paraded the streets and made a racket. At night when Dr. Jordan came to Palo Ato from San Francisco where he had been to see the trial. The students met him at the depot and with a decorated carriage pulled him to the university where he made a fine speech. You ought to have heard the noise. The students got some red paint and painted the depot.

I and another fellow took a walk to San Francisco bay yesterday morning. It's about 4 miles east of Palo Alto. We borrowed a boat there and had a fine row.

When is Gus coming home Don't you feel scared to stay home all alone.

How is Ted getting along. I guess you feed him enough.

Time flies so fast that before I know it the week is up. Here it is pretty near half a semester already. I'll be glad when Xmas comes.

Say is Annie forgeting my board bill. It comes around at the 5th of each month.

Rhe Smith got hurt playing football the other day. He hurt his leg and will have to be in bed about 3 weeks. I never see any thing of Otto Gottschalk. He's too hot stuff. (would be hot stuff).

Dear Ma etc;

I recieved Annie's letter to day wiwth draft. Tell Annie that I had kept account but forgot to send it. The first few things on the list I forgot the date of. I will send statement for Oct. at the end of the mouth so as to have it all on one sheet.

As you will see if you look over the list that there is no laundry, but as I have to leave home pretty early on Mondays and don't get home till pretty late Friday I never get to see the laundry mom. I owe him about $3.00. My laundry comes to from 50 to 70 cents every week.

I think that plan of spending $5.00 every month is good. I guess its about

right. When the rain comes I will have to ride in the bus which costs $250 a month. In about two week I have to get a new book and when Thanksgiving comes I have to get two more.

Well nothing new happened this week except that Walter Camp the Stanford football coach arrived in Palo Alto yesterday.

I met a fellow named Haehl from San Francisco who is going to study mining and is also thinking of going to Golden. He is a nice fellow. He is backing it in a house near the university and says he lives for about $10 a month. He wants me to live with him. I don't think I want to though when I have a chance to be in a fine place like I am in now.

It seems hardly worthwhile writting, the time goes so fast that I will be home before I have time to think.
