My dear Auntie--

I can scarcely realize that there are so few weeks more in this
short year. It has seemed like a year of play--it is so easy just
to learn things and history especially. I do not remember whether or
not I told you that I wrote to Mrs. Hughes at Belmont to know if there
were a vacancy there as I heard that Miss Sweeney was going East again
but find that for the past year she has been at another school in
Belmont as principal. I can't tell yet what I shall do--that is next
year. Rose and I are very happy to go back home--straighten out the
house and make up what things we have to put our clothes in order--Rose
especially for next year. I received a letter from a real estate
agency last week asking the renting of our house, but I can attend to
that later. We are having some difficulty in getting $10,000
Goodnough mortgage taken up but as soon as we do, I can send you the
four hundred. It takes just a very few stern lessons to teach us that
there is no use worrying about anything. It seems as if I never was
so happy in my life and especially when I am forced to "trust"--and
there is no earthly help that can satisfy, nor compare when one has
once felt the strength and peace that it brings. Truly there is no
sorrow when God is near.

Rose went Friday night to the Junior Party with Mr. Herme whom
you remember nicknamed Rose the "Queen". They call him now the 'Count'
and I am ashamed to say it--Rose--the Countess--all because Rose was
good enough to go with him to the party--after refusing him once, and
his being refused by a number of girls afterward. He sent her a most
exquisite bouquet of lilies of the valley to carry--which are still
fresh--Rose looked so simple and sweet in her white organdy that she
had made for the S.A.E. party at the beginning of last semester.

I do not know what kind of weather you are having East but our
days are heavenly--and the girls are out in their shirtwaists and
straw hats. Rose was sent to S.F. on Junior errands & of course had
her fare paid--so I thot it a good time to send for a sailor hat as
my one of last year has gotten broken. I got --that is Rose selected
for me a very nice stiff black one--(just what I wanted) that will last
me until I put on my this years felt again next Fall. I do so believe
in getting one nice thing and with care making it last a long time.

The time is slipping and I must go gover my French again.

Love from
Theodora.
