Will this letter NEVER END?! Sometimes it seems like it, I must say, but we just keep moving on, so the letter must too I guess. Where did I stop? My birthday I think, so here we are again.

DAY 34 (July 15- Tuesday):

You already know we went into London, I told you that when I finished the last letter that morning. We actually got some sunshine and a conspicuous lack of rain that day - much enjoyed. We had a series of errands to run, the mailing of boxes and such, and we kept saying we were going to the Portrait Gallery, but we never made it that far, but we didn't really care anyway. We wondered our way over to the classy end of town, and [Jules?] gave me [tea?] at the Ritz for my present - incredible! Real little finger sandwiches, beautiful pastries, waiters in tuxes with [foils?], and elegant room set up for people watching. Very different from tea at Harrods (all the pastry you eat) but both great in their own way. Anyway, we then did a lot of [wondering?] - [buying?] new reading material, looking around the Design Center etc. Then we got take away fish and chips (very greasy but a lot of fun) a first for both of us (I've never had the real take-away greasy kind, always served) the second of the day really since we had our first English Baskin Robbins in the morning - good but OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive (60p for 2 scoops or about $1.42 - a treat not indulged in very often - even with the prices here, I don't know how those stores survive at that rate). Anyway,we then walked across the river and saw Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead at the New Vic -- not bad, some good ideas but Guildenstern was off/flat that night (at least I hope that was the problem) so it wasn't as good as it could be. Came back to [Gliveden?] and had some champagne as a final celebration and went to bed LATE!

DAY 35:

Just for good measure we had to get up EARLY to catch our train to Ireland. We arrived in

Dublin at a non-continental hostel eg. one with cooking facilities and went nuts, satisfying our [canned?] food [craving?] with macaroni and cheese and soup (instant) for dinner.

DAY 36:

We decided to spend the day in Dublin and environs before moving on, and stuck to it through the stop and start torrential rain we got all day long. We sepnt the morning at Trinity College, saw the gorgeous [lay library?] with an exhibit on modern Irish [literary?] people and the Book of Kels, we wandered around a little longer looking at the great state buildings and decided that it would be a nice place to go to school. We then moved on to a little town about a half hour away by bus called Howth. We clambered up and around the 'summit' of the town for beautiful views of the Irish sea and town itself, and saw the little church but the rain started again and we couldn't find a place to have tea so we went back to Dublin. After dinner we went to the Abby Theatre (Irish National Theatre) and saw a play called A Life -- very good with one day in 4 people's [lives?] going on in one part of the satge, the episodes they refer to on their lives on another part of the stage and a central part used by both.

DAY 37:

Travelling again, down south west to Killarney this time, and didn't arrive until about 4:00 or 5:00 walked 3.5 miles to the hostel (actually longer, had to get to town from the train station too) and of course it started raining on us again, and we were quite wet before an older coupe insisted on giving us a ride about the last quarter to half a mile when we asked directions - great people all over this country. Managed to get a place to sleep on the floor, and just read and wrote all night - very relaxing

DAY 38:

Remain in [Killary?], get hit by the "you-can't-get-there-from-here" syndrome so common these days when we want to go anywhere and ended up just wandering around Killary all day (hard to do, it's a very small town -- very touristy, but the people are exceedingly nice, so you ignore all the tourist shops and such). More relaxation (this exercise stuff must be good for us, a round trip to town is 8 miles, but the scenery is gorgeous and we didn't get rained on on the walk today so... Evengot beds to sleep on in the hostel YEAH!

DAY 39 (July 20- Sunday):

Rented bike from the hostel and rode out to [Muckross?] National Park complete with ruined abbey country house and waterfall. Long ride and very [tiring?], especially on the way back when a very stray wind kicked up the allergies/asthma but really gorgeous green grass and ferns and trees everywhere, not to mention the lakes and trying to avoid the horse pulled [jaunty?] cars. Spent much [time?] avoiding bees too but it was so relaxing and so much needed that we were both quite happy with the day.

DAY 40:

Mainly another travel day. Walked into Killarney for the last time, wandered around, had lunch, used up Irish stamps. Finally caught a train to the train to the boot to the train to London. Spent most of that time finding plums, reading, sleeping and looking at the scenery.

DAY 41:

Arrive into London at 7:30 am. Ran around like crazy trying to find an Am Ex office and get to hostel before 10:00 -- made it and got a place for 2 nights. Did some shopping, finished the National Gallery. Wandered around alot and then went to see Browning [Version and Harliquinn?]

at the National, REALLY GOOD.

DAY 42: Up early for tour of the National Theatre, info about all 3 theatres, some stuff backstage...very good and interesting. Off to lunch and the National Portrait Gallery, very interesting but quite tiring - all those people you've never heard of observing the ones you have .. found out my British history isn't very good. Saw The Elephant Man at the National good play and ran into a [Clivedenite?] I know - SURPRISE!

DAY 43: Had to go back to [Cliveden?] to get more money, no choice, it's in the bank. So I brought some groceries, had lunch, did my laundry and finished up the last pages of a book (and got a couple more out of the [Cliveden?] library). Met Jules at 6:00 [and?] trotted off to see the friend from [Tours?] we'll be staying with. He wasn't home so we watched the Olympics on TV with a house mate then a decent sitcom then went to MacDonalds for dinner (nearby and easy). Gave our host a heart attack when we finally saw him, and then talked about the past 6 weeks until 1:30 in the morning (he had to go to work Friday too .. EF [Hutten?], London).

DAY 44: (Friday, July 25): Up about nine and Jules did her laundry. Then we met our host for lunch. Then off to see St. Pauls (finally got to see it this [time?] on my fourth try) and tonight two shows Accidental Death of an Alchemist - the reason our host was late, supposedly very good, and Tom Foolery - reviews when I write again (for you, the next sentence however). Both were quite good - the farmer played a lot off the audience, but there wasn't much of one so it wasn't as

good as it could have been, but that's life I guess, it was still good though. The second was simply a conglomeration of Tom Lehrer's songs but the people were so good (as were the songs) that it was absolutely hysterical.

DAY 45: Spent most of my day shopping - Harrod's was a zoo but I'm virtually finished now so I guess it was worth it. Saw two more shows, The Dresser and Once in a Lifetime, both good (the former about the dresser for an actor, the latter a musical).

DAY 46: Slept in a little (our host is out of town visiting some people) then took a long walk and saw about half the Tate Gallery. Talked for a long time (thought we were going to get some sleep - HA!).

DAY 47: (Monday July 28) (This is [the?] start of 3 BAD days, not much will be said, so don't be surprised, but I want to get this in the mail) Had to go to Cliveden to close the bank account but missed the train I planned to be on (they hid it from me) so didn't get out and [there and?] back, until late. My shoes [stuck?] to my feet and I had to waste time and I could hardly walk. Got to the National and the play I was going to see was sold out, spinted to another play The Hothouse by Harold Pinter which I didn't understand - HELP!

DAY 48: The day of the airplane disaster which we all know about so I won't go into. Took our host to tea at the Ritz which was much fun and then we all (plus another tourist) met for dinner and split for the shows (I'd seen what they were seeing). My show was [bad?], and I'd even been warned but didn't listen - so what else is new?
