7:15 Get up. Misc. Dryer not working again so take clothes to laundromat after washing here. Finish monthly accounting using the one-drive method I always used for [?]. Make appt w/ Kuharic for Gen Phys. 12:45 Go get dry clothes while printing report. Lunch while looking over report. Ok. Make backups. Go ger cash + gold coin. Put coin + backup into safety deposit box. Misc. Put stuff away. Garbage out. 3:15 To Microsoft, listening to Inv Hotline. Lots of Bears expecting recession. But the point is you have to keep up to date all the time with this sort of stuff. At Microsoft, [?] Mac Basic Compiler and v3.00 of Interpreter + PC Excel video. Work on downloading fonts: How did Word do it in v.3. and v4.0? David Banys... 6:45 Read Mac World at Wanys kitchen. Go home (stop briefly at [?] Home [?] to look for [?] stuff: nothing.) 8:15 Shower. More Mac World. Mom calls. 11:30 To bed.

When it started to play "Crystal Blue Persuasion" and they switched it to Springsteen, I was sold. 12:00 Left with good riddance attitude. Lunch at Bellevue Soy Galley. Read Fortune ~Deficit reduction strategy. Good succint article. 12:45 Go to Kuharics for general physical. 2:00 Go home for a moment. WSJ. When extra hands come, I leave for Espresso Shop near Godfathers. More MacWorld. 3:15 Go to Microsoft. Today 47 3/4, 46, 46 (close) Discuss download font w/ David + Edj. Look at code for INI only. Fri + Sat Nov 27-28

Got internal disk drive upgrade + new ROM. After a very awful (crowded w/trolls) workout at the Body, I went to Businessland for diskettes (DSDD) and found a 3.5" external drive in beige, for just $299. The computer store wanted $350 list + $350 discount, but mail order was only $209. (But that's not an Apple drive thru the mail).

Friday evening I learned all about new ROM and finder 5.x, and arranged Pers Acct, Word and Excel appropriately. Mom + Dad called. Busy day downtown. They bought VCR for Meg + Eric.

Saturday I finished Mac upgrade study. Looked at Mac 3.01 lessons, and there's nothing I want to learn, I don't know already. Also did a lot of miscellaneous.

Reconsider why I want to redecorate:

- I won't be here much, so why do it?

- Things fit well in bookshelves I have now, except for stuff that I could either

- put in a few binders

- put in YEARLY shoeboxes

- take to San Francisco

- Maybe strange to change bedroom + den after all these years

- Would have to rethink wiring, etc.

- Would have to spend quite a bit of $$$

- Most things I need to keep organized here are not worth the time + money to worry about, and they are fine as they are.

And consider whether I really want to keep writing daily diary.

After dinner, I went through all of the information that I felt wasn't well placed, and either threw it out, or put it in binders. Most important, I threw out all those Nightengale Conant ads (on my desk for so long) and using bookends I put the new binders along with blue notebook. GREAT!

(very sunny morn, cloudy aft)

Morning:

Went through this summer's old financial products mail, like Fidelity + T Rowe Price bonds, Vanguard Real Estate Fund, Zweig Investment Service, and threw most out but kept notes in Bluebook on why each is inappropriate.

Also, collected all my tax returns and supporting documents into one place, and put the Pre-Seattle ones in closet with other old stuff, and put the Seattle years in a box.

After lunch:

Play with Word 3.01 + Excel 1.04 a bit. Read over "Policies for 4th quarter" and put away under Earnings in blue notebook along with a few notes I've written since then.

Decide maybe I should still get one tall bookshelf for Den to put away the things I'll bring home from Microsoft, having to do with Pers Acct and Works development. And move short bookshelf over to window.

4:30 Tan at the Body Nautilus. Shower, hot tub, shower.

5:45 At home, pull together pers mail starting in early '86 and leave other behind on shelf with diaries through end of 1986.

Finalize decision to sell Vang Bond.

Dinner.

Finish first round cleaning dining room carpet. (May need another round.)

Think about this weekend awhile. What if Henry finds something wrong? If ok, should I postpone SF until I've started reading and gotten some ideas? Why if I'm invited to a party? What would I talk about?

9:00 Get out of the house awhile. J&L to pee. Tugs: sort of fun.

10:45 To bed. Wake up ~ 1:00 with headache AGAIN.

7:30 Watch CNN. Down down 75 points

Clean rug in dining room a little more.

Sell all Vanguard shares, and hopefully they won't reinvest dividends, because price went ex-dividend today.

Mom + Dad called briefly.

Go to Gym. Maybe today is just a test of my resolve to be a L.T. invester.

Lunch at Wendy's

Jeff wants to meet about LOA soon.

Look at screentest review of Works. OK.

Look at MacWorld Upgrade article. All done

Look over monthly report again. Yawn...

Start coding INI stuff.

3:00 Leave for home. No calls from Kuharic.

Pleasant evening. Looked at old Editx stuff. It's only 3 1/2K words! And disk space costs 0.01 per 640 char/month, or $5 for a floppy disk, just for 1 month!

Day started at Microsoft with Email that Infoworld rated PC works 8.3! After reading that, I had some summary ideas on investment positions, and then started in earnest on INI code.

1:45 Had to go home to receive ddining art from Catherine. Great looking. Wanted this ever since before Works.

Wrote up this morning's thoughts.

So ends 2 years of work on Works.
