WORKS doesn't have this problem because the presence of a dot (a character is Works case) is independent of its color. It'd be great if you could just OR dot values to memory in Windows or the Mac, and then have other memory which says what color the dot is if its on and what color if it's off. Then you could set up regions of selected color much more simply. Essentially the dot says which plane of color to show. But it's fundamentally a performance issue. Too bad it's so slow, since only way around it results in flicker while scrolling.
