SUNDAY May 1, 1977

Since the last book ended several things have happened. I wrote the last entry in there about February 13. I had just got back from LA. Conceptually I had finished all of the development on EDITX's marketing and had finished all of the major work for MicroSoft except year end matters. I did those things through till Fri March 11 and also began the marketing of EDITX to APS. It was not all that intriguing but showed me that I need more patience in such matters. I also started to use APS to find new outlets for my sales. Sent letter to El Paso.

For MicroSoft, I also finished setting up the deal with Commodore and then I set off to California for vacation. I wanted to get a job there very badly. I also wanted to have a good time with an all-american blond. I met one name Jim Schultz. We

went to the beach and Disneyland and bars in Long Beach, Newport Beach, etc. Wonderful time. He was going to repay the $50 he borrowed but still has not. I went to see Cal. Software Products & Pete Washington on Friday & was unimpressed. Then interest starts.

First I came back to MicroSoft Fri Mar 18. No job in hand. But that is not bad I guess. The first week was very boring. Oriented Elaine, bought furniture, etc. No Editx stuff I was too depressed but I made my appointment Tuesday to see & give EDX demo the next Thursday, March 31. That first weekend I was back, Chip was gone and I just wanted to think about what I wanted to do. Spent Thurs & Fri night & Sat all day on it. Church & letters on Sunday. Some crazy idea of working with Xerox, as a sociological-impact researcher

I wrote letters of interest the next week, along with letters to satisfy any speeding tickets. I wrote to Xerox PARC and to Alan Kay there. But it didn't ever pan out. I also gave my demo at APS and that was favorable and I called El Paso after sending them a letter the previous Thursday. This was unfavorable. But I tried to work out something. May come down & demo at Easter time. The next weekend.

That weekend of the second week I goofed around w/ Chip around Madrid and in Santa Fe that night. Got up late both days. Sunday, did brunch at Albuquerque Inn. Then I did my own crazy stuff Sunday aft and we went to N M Film Show Sun night.

The next week was a fast one at Micro Soft because of the long three day weekend at Easter. No time for any Editx stuff. Went to El Paso

Friday Apr 8. Saw churches + bars. Then caverns at Carlsbad Saturday. Came back to El Paso. Easter Service at 11:00 Sunday. Then dinner at H. Inn and bullfight in Juarez. Difficulty getting back. Trying to take the bars & getting lost in Juarez. The Tuesday Apr 5 of that week, the thought popped into my mind of the possibility of working for Ryan McFarland. I asked myself why I hadn't thought that earlier. I guess three reasons

1) I wanted to consider the Xerox sort of work. See letter to Jack Lawrence & also consider all possible avenues as I had that first weekend.

2) It was important for me to sign Bill's nondisclosure agreement. If I had gotten a job when I was in L.A. & come back & didn't sign the nondisc

agreement, I would have very ungraceful departure.

3) My working for RM may have effected who gets the TI deal. It would have been bad for them to get it & maybe even have me work on it.

So I decided to wait until the bids were finalized until I called. During the 4th week nothing much happened here. My extra time was spent on doing my tax reports as Apr 15 was Friday.

Chip was gone that weekend so I was just curious to see Santa Fe & what it has to offer. Not much. I met a guy who is working on The Mikado & spent the night there, but came back next day and essentially spent the afternoon hoping & praying, did general personal business & washed & watched TV in the evening.

Then Sunday Apr 17 I went to Church and saw John Hamlin again.

Afterwards we went out to brunch, then home for s ex and then he showed me his Juke Box's at his house and then we went on a ride up to Santa Fe on his motor cycle on N14 and back on I25. Wild ride.

Then I saw 60 minutes and then read a book for 3 hours, called the R document. Then All that glitters came on. It was important for me that that day be one of rest.

Looking back on it, it is here that I declare this Sun April 17th to be the end of the 1/4 for two reasons 1) taxes done 2) all major uSoft work done 3) interesting things start to happen 4) exactly one year since I started working for MicroSoft.

The next day Al Riconi called but Bill was not in so no one got the call. I told Elaine if he calls & Bill's not in let me have it. Tuesday he called & I got it. He said had gotten the bids, they were acceptable, no questions & he had recommeded one but could not tell us who.

So Tuesday afternoon April 17 I called RM. I got McFarland and he said to just send a resume. But then he called back about 10 minutes later and said he'd talked to Ryan and they'd like me to come out that weekend. That excited my whole afternoon. Thursday was my birthday and Chip bought me a cake with Pink Elephants on it. I got good presents from Mom & Dad (bear), Meg (sun visor), and Aunt Clara gave me a card with the rolling paper in it.

Then Friday Apr 22 night I went to L.A. Felt good. McFarland perked me up. Took me to

H. Inn. Rent-a-car was closed so could just stay there. But I guess that was good so I could get a full nights rest. Then I saw R & M next morning, then lunch, then went to see Beach Towns, then to Health Spa & back to H. Inn. Called R & told him will meet at 10:00 AM. Then relaxed dressed showered, dinner & off to 8709 baths. Then back to H. Inn & to sleep.

Sunday saw R & went over plans & EDITX and then went to Zuma Beach nude beach. Wasn't so great. Then to airport & back to ABQ & Chip.

Felt great last Monday (Apr 25) morning. Went to work & discussed matter with myself. Then w/ Bill. He asked as a favor that I stay till July 1.

Monday night was the TI celebration dinner so I was fairly freed up then. I decided I would ask Bill for RMs salary and my 6800 money.

Tuesday Apr 26 was discussion. It was very intense & sad. Bill claimed that I had promised to stay six months. But I made the argument that I only had to give 30 days notice. It got so bad he asked for his $4300 back. Then I said I would stay if he gave me RMs salary and the 6800 money. We finally compromised on the RM salary and $1500 of the 6800 money.

So Tuesday night was good. Chip & I saw Carrie & Lifeguard. Lifeguard's name was Rich.

Wednesday Apr 27 was cool and I spent the morning reviewing all this stuff and resolved that I would write it up soon here. Wednesday night did the spa and Thursday started thinking
