Saturday, June 2nd

My Dear Boy,

You are having a good time in Washington today, as we have remarked among ourselves several times. Your card and letter mailed on the way came yesterday. Too bad you didn't at least get to see Clint & wife. But suppose if they had been especially interested they might have come in to W.W.'s that day.

Forgot to tell you to tell Suse we were or are expecting her. No doubt she will give the account of your visit in detail.

While I miss you at every turn, there is no chance to sit down and mope if I so desired. Everything is in confusion with the kids getting things moved out of Faye's house to the McKendry place, and some of them moved over here and Feme's trunk and c being parked to take out of C. & C. Paul came yesterday and while he is not in love with the job of looking after the Japs out there and feels that maybe Frank is making a strain to give him a job, he has decided to take it for a few weeks, hoping for something more to his liking. He is so anxious to get into some government work, and will not take a school job unless he can get something attractive, so quite disgusted with the politics worked in the big schools. And now after getting settled on moving to the ranch, comes a letter from Kimmie asking Feme to go up and stay two or three weeks with her. She is alone with the two children and looking for No. 3 in a few weeks, and hungry for some of her own kin to be with her, she says.

You see Albert was so patriotic, so loyal to his country, it would seem

that he must needs hunt up this job, which hundreds of unmarried men are capable of doing and anxious to do, and leave his family at this critical time. Patriotism? Bah! Selfishness.

However we all feel so sorry for him and Feme and Paul, especially that Feme is going to leave Paul to get along by himself on the ranch, and she and Anne will go up to Berkeley Monday and stay a week or two, and I will do what I can to make life easier for Paul.

Faye will go to Stockton with Frank as soon as he comes down which may be in a few days, and she may rest Feme off by staying with Kimmie awhile.

Pops went over to Lindsay Thurs and will likely be back tomorrow - a letter came the day he left saying they were ready to begin picking the valencias.

You didn't send me Joy Tuck's address. Perhaps I'd better write a note asking Edna for it when I send her the books?

Tried to call Mr. Haskett but was unable to get him, then read in the paper that he had gone to Minnesota.

Anne's daily question is "When is Pat coming home?" She sat on Mrs. Knox's porch the other morning and told her the whole story about Pat going to France and how he is going to help the poor hurt men, and carry them on the stretchers.
