Tuesday, December 4.
Aviation bldg 45 Ave Montaigne w. Spat at 9am. Sworn into service for 4 yrs. Came back to Pavillion Hotel expecting to stay the night(!) but just as I was about to pay for another night Spat came with the announcement that we would have to go to the barracks -- Hotel Montaigne at 30 Rue M -- to stay. We had planned a farewell feed at Maxim's for [Blate?], but had to stay in tonight. Cold, it is, but we have steam heat. Vern didn't get registered today. Spat, Jimmy P., Ben C., Harold Sayer, Niel P. and I are in two rooms together. Campbell will [come?] in

probably tomorrow. Got 4 packages for Spat from home and a letter. No mail for me for days & days & days, it seems.
Wed Dec. 5.
Cold! Lordy! Slept little during the night. Had windows open for air - which I suppose was foolish in spite of training. We're in the Army now. Swept the halls and down five flights of stairs besides moving the bedding from one storeroom to another this morning w. Spat. Dinner w. Vern Jim & Hal. S. at a [Duval?]. Very bad service.

[Glen?] the Mediterranean, Pavillon for my alwaysleft-behind razor strop which I got (no mail) To bed at ten. Door open but windows closed tonight. Spat's having dinner with Rene ce soir.
Thurs Dec 6.
Slept warm. Campbell's in our room so all seven of us are together. Ben & Niel & Sayer got boxes of candy. Curses! Where are mine packages? But I'm fed up on sweets. Ate no dinner tonight; have a repetition of a cold. Swept and mopt this morning with Jim. Shopping this aft.

Made a date with Mademoiselle Mary Therese Sidler for Sunday noon.
Fri. Dec 7
Noon & night in the kitchen & eating room. K.P. Washed all the dishes both meals. And did a little porter work besides. Sick with a beastly cold. With Frank Hill and Pops.
Sat. Dec 8
In bed all morning. Spat was 10 m. late last night! (Down on his record.) The rest of the fellows worked today. I have a painful cough. The box that was at

the YMCA hotel was a small box of [Wilson's?] [Coeds?], some jacks and a funny balancing bilikin from J. Halingsworth! The irony of it! Edna's not yet.
Sun Dec 9.
Rain and my cold not improved. Spat and I went to the Opera to meet our ["Girls"?] at 11:30. Then took a taxi to Maxims. Some swell party. Everything just right. Cream soup w plenty of greens [chopt?] in. Fillet of sole, steak and kidney pie, tarts, black coffee and Pall malls. Sauterne to drink. Including tips 79 fr. Oh, Doctor! Walked down the Champs Elysees
