Put in a sick call but the doc didn't show up. Ashamed of myself for needing it. Grub is absolutely unbearable here. [And?] no reason in Paris. Potatoes and gravy and fruit and meal all mixed on one plate. Rotten coffee Vern and I went to

the Pavillion for a good lunch & I came back to Dr. Bean at 45 [Wk?] for a throat swab. Feels better now. Fine letters from Dr. Alden and Bea. The Dr. is sending me $30, having just received my Albanian note concerning expenses for 1918. Bless his heart. Bea's sending me a fruit cake. Damn [here?] [Raynouard?] - or someone who is keeping my packages. Spat, Ben, Jim, Hal & Niel are [hustling?] baggage at aviation store house all day long.

The doc came and [physict?] me and told me to gargle salt water. Pretty common sense, I dare say. Needles in my throat. Swept the house this morning downstairs. Fine letter from Waf. Ed & Frank have taken a [3000?] acre island in the [river?] country for seed. Ed's giving up autos. Cold and misty.

Played the game of dodge well. Vern & I went to the Pavillion for dinner & the Univ. Club after. Wrote Edna from

there things that I could not have sent by military post. Vern went to see Dr. [Gres?] about our possibilities of going to Egypt. Not much chance. My cold is a bit better. Went to [?] for mail, but they say there that everything is being forwarded. Saw Frank & he walked half way home with me. He's working on the Field Service book & wants material.
Thurs Dec 13.
Another day of playing it well. Embusqui! Light lunch at Pavillion. [Movies?] [Pathe?] with Vern (the other fellows are all working at

Clichy). Then a large turkey dinner at the P at night. Entertainment singing by a Canadian, [short?], hatchet faced, a [?] with a prominent chin, a couple of boxing matches. Last night went to a YMCA Sailor's & Soldiers' Club rooms at Rue Royale for an entertainment. Mrs. Harriman spoke. Alhambra niggers played & danced "Classic" dances danced and a little Charley Chaplin and his sister in "musical acrobatics".

Didn't win today. Swept down the back stairs and mopt the office
