the first solo my mind was all on what was going on, but on the second, when I had come around the course with the wind, and I glided along easily for a mile with one hand on the controls, I confess that I let my memory slip back un petit peu, and for a moment or two I fancied you in the seat which had been occupied by the moniteur. It was just at sunset and the little farm and grove was passing a hundred metres below us, and I said to you (I didn't seem to have to shout) "Do you remember- -?" But that wasn't safe. We can't go daydreaming in the sky! We have to mind our knitting! - this morning I made three more solo

flights in fog, and made perfect landings. I have had fifty one tours now. It is wonderful, and I am all anticipation for the coming steps in advancement. And perhaps the present condition of the front doesn't make me anxious to complete my training and be doing my bit again there. I will make some fifty solo flights at this [piste?] before going to the next. ---
