Dear Mr. Tresidder,

I have received your letter concerning the Stanford educational program for veterans and welcome the opportunity of offering my suggestions for what they're worth.

I was graduated in 1937 from the [Divison?] of journalism and worked for about five years on the Oakland Tribune prior to coming [into?] the Army. Dr. Bush.

Whatever program is [adapted?] I think should be adapted to the needs of the veterans - many will have been away from school for several years and will have to learn again how to study. Courses should start slowly and speed up as the students become accustomed once more to "hitting the books". The courses should be designed as much as possible to fit men for jobs. This would require the kind of coordination between the various schools and the business would which has been practiced by the Graduate School of Business and the Division of Journalism for a number of years.

Many young men, aged and hardened by combat, cynical in some cases, will need a mental conditioning to restore them to normal productive lives and I think that the University can do much to help them by exposing them anew to the principles which have made America the symbol of freedom to peoples everywhere. Courses in sociology, labor relations and political science would help Stanford veterans to assume the positions of leadership which will be greatly needed in the post-war world.

Please advise the Records Bureau that I'm at present
