RECEIVED APR 2 1945 PRESIDENTS OFFICE

22 March, 1945

Mr. Donald B. Tresidder President, Stanford Univ. Stanford Univ., Calif.

Dear Mr. Tresidder:

You ask if we in the service will return to Stanford. As for myself, I have been graduated, but if possible, I'd like to obtain an E.E. degree. I went through the Radar coursee at Harvard and M.I.T., and understand from Dr. F.E. Terman that it may be possible to have this work credited. I doubt if I will be able to take the time to go back to Stanford, but I imagine that others who took the Radar course will want to work for an advanced degree ini electronics. In preparation for such a course, some additional courses would no doubt haev to be incorporated in the curriculum. I would suggest that more space be given to the electrical engineering labs and more test and training equipment purchased. (Such equipment might be obtained for very little from the government after the war -- and even now when a lot of the training schools are being closed. Dr. Terman should make a good "liason" [liaison] man in this regard.

I think you will find many of the men returning will be

married, and will want houses or apartments. Perhaps some of the housing projects nearby will be available there. Harvard University had a very good system, where all houses and apartments, etc. were listed with a central agency.

Extra-curricular activities are pretty well taken care of, I believe, but I would suggest a special sports program for graduates, and having an extra matinee run in the theatres for the wives, if daily matinees are not now the case. Special courses might also be given in the university for the wives.

Best wishes to your and all the Stanford family.

Sincerely, Paul J. Ganahl 1st Lt., A.C. (Stanford '38).
