Dear Sir,
I write in response to your letter of March in which you request my plans and suggestions in regard to post war Stanford. I graduated in July 1944, my major being Biochemistry, but I continued my studies as a graduate student until I was drafted Sept 4, 1944.
It is my desire to return to Stanford and work for a masters degree in Chemistry. I also hope to take a number of courses in Psychology. There is no doubt that I will have forgotten a good deal that I should know, but be taking a rather light schedule in the beginning I will have the time to pick it up.
I believe there exists a considerable group who wish to see the fraternity house system follow the sorority system into extinction, and I am one of this group. Since the break has already been accomplished during the war this seems the opportune moment for an official move. A dormitory system which includes an active social program is the only democratic solution. The group of veterans returning to their education will, I feel, benefit by not having to face the mysterious and immature activity of the fraternity, which might split the students into soldier and non soldier classes.
Yours truly, Robert Leary
