Dear Tom:

I haven't heard from you in sometime so thought I'd better drop you a note to see if you were behaving yourself and to say "hello."

How is everything going at the 'ole Alma Mater and, most of all, how's your golf game? Have been following general "doings" in The Alumni Review and also by word of mouth back here.

I received my commission on July 18th at Quantico and finished the Reserve Officer's Course the latter part of Sept. I was sure I would be ordered to San Diego (as were all the Pacific Coast boys) but 20 of us were chosen to be supply officers - so here I am at the Quartermaster sch. in New River, No. Carolina.

Will finish here on the 18th of Dec. and am hoping to be attached to

a Marine Air Squadron as aeronautical quartermaster and sent to Calif. - anyway, I've got my fingers crossed.

This base is really TREMENDOUS - it occupies 234 square miles, has facilities for 60,000 marines and is still growing! However, the climate is poor & the mosquitos are terrible + most of us would give anything to be out in the Solomons & have a little peace and quiet!

Was glad to see my boy Tom Dewey's victory in New York. If you remember I wrote a paper for you on Mr. Dewey's chance for the presidencey & he seems to have made a step in the right direction. Will you also please tell me how an intelligent electorate can defeat a man like Geo. Noris & return Ham Fish?
