June Friday 8th [1883]
Left camp at 8 & arrived at
the "Elsie" [Elsey] at about 2. A
distance of 26 miles. The pack-
horses with the 2 men came
on in front today, so by
the time we had had
a wash, there was a nice
dinner ready for us in
the kitchen. This being
only a wet season telegraph
station, there is only one
operator & the working
men, & the Office is his
bedroom too, so we have
our tent pitched close to
the house. It is
only a shed of a building,
made of logs, some 2
inches apart. It is nice
& clean however, so it is
quite pleasant in this
hot climate. Here is the
middle of June & the days
after 8 o'clock until sun-
down are uncomfortably
hot. There is a Cattle
Station 4 miles from here, so
we are gradually getting
into civilization.
